Following the open meeting on January 13th, FoNC have decided to host an event this coming May near the Castle mound to raise awareness of the heritage of this important site. This is still in very early stages so if you are passionate about the town’s history and the castle in particular, and feel you can contribute something please do get in touch!
We’re particularly interested in hearing from local youth groups, re-enactment societies, history or heritage groups. We are currently putting together the programme of the day and are interested in gathering a diverse range of attractions for this event so any ideas you have would be great to hear!
Also in the meeting we discussed the draft business proposal and decided on some improvements and changes which are needed before it’s finalised.
Finally, as the ultimate goal is to redevelop the site, there will eventually be a need for a community archaeology group. While we’re not yet ready to dust off our trowels and start digging, we would love to hear from you if you would be interested in such an endeavour. Again please get in touch if you or your group would like to hear more on this front.
All in all, it was a very well attended and hugely positive meeting with lots of fantastic ideas for the future, as well as some exciting meetings being set up to take the business proposal further.
Our next meeting is on February 17th at the Old Black Lion in Marefair, all are welcome so come along and share your thoughts, offer your help or just listen to what’s in motion!
